Buckeye football player suspended

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Ohio State sophomore defensive lineman Noah Spence has been suspended for three games for violating Big Ten Conference rules. The suspension begins with the Orange Bowl this Friday.

Spence didn't travel with the team to Miami and team officials wouldn't talk about why. Coach Urban Meyer called it a "personal issue."

In a statement released on Wednesday, the university says Spence's parents don't agree with the rule violation or the penalty. They appealed, with the help of the OSU Athletics Department, but the appeal was denied.

The university has not said what the violation was.

Spence is an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and an OSU Scholar-Athlete. He will be able to practice with the team this spring, but he will not be eligible to play until OSU's third game of the 2014 season on September 13 against Kent State.
