Columbus Police officer's weapon accidentally fires at headquarters

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Columbus Police say no one was injured after an officer's weapon accidentally went off as he was trying to holster it.

A police spokesman says a detective from the gun crimes unit had just gotten done escorting a prisoner. The detective, a 26-year veteran of Columbus Police was trying to re-holster his weapon after getting it out of a lockbox when it went off twice.

The incident happened just after noon on the 4th floor of the Columbus Police headquarters on Marconi Blvd in downtown Columbus.

No one was hit but the shots. Police are checking to see if the detective's extra clothing, due to the cold weather, may have played a role.
