Man charged with shaking toddler to death

UTICA, Ohio (WTVN) -- A Licking County man has been charged with murder after the death of his live-in girlfriend's young daughter.

Licking County Sheriff's Deputies say Daniel D. Hall, 24, admitted to shaking the 2-year old girl to death while she was in the bath tub.

A news release from the Sherrif's Office says Hall told investigators the girl became "cranky" during the bath and started crying. He shook her when she wouldn't stop crying.

When the child lost consciousness, Hall took her to her grandparents. They then drove the girl to Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark.

Doctors flew the girl to Nationwide Children's Hospital Wednesday night and she died early Thursday morning.

Hall is currently is being held at the Licking County Justice Center.

The girl's mother, Melissa Swetnam, was at work at the time of the incident. Other children were at the home at the time, but investigators say no one else was injured.
