Man who confessed on YouTube to causing deadly crash now charged

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- The man who made a YouTube video confession for causing a deadly crash has now been charged.

The Franklin County Grand Jury indicted Matthew Cordle, 22, for one count of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The charges are in relations to the June 22 wrong-way crash on I-670 that killed Vincent Canzani of Gahanna.

The indictment alleges Cordle had a blood alcohol level of .191 at the time of the crash.

Cordle reported to the Franklin County Jail Monday afternoon, to turn himself in.

Last week Cordle confessed in a video posted online that he was to blame for the wrong way crash that occurred after he had spent the night drinking.

“If convicted on these charges, Cordle faces a maximum sentence of 8-1/2 years incarceration”, said Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien.

Cordle will be in court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Prosecutors expect Cordle to plead guilty.
