WASHINGTON, DC (WTVN) -- The Buckeye State ranked 8th in the nation in the number of international students enrolled at colleges and universities.
The Institute of International Education found there are 28,401 international students in Ohio. That's up 7.5 percent from last year.
The vast majority of international students, 41 percent, are from China. India is second with 13 percent. Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Taiwan make up the rest of the top 5.
Ohio State University was the top campus in the state for international students with nearly 6,500. There are nearly 3,000 at the University of Cincinnati, 2,400 at Kent State University, 1,890 at Ohio University, and 1,887 at the University of Toledo.
The number of international students at colleges nationwide increased 7 percent last school year to a record 819,644.
International students spend about $772.4 million in Ohio.
